Mustang Men's Tennis Downs Wesley on Senior Day
STEVENSON, Md. - Led by wins from seniors Shawn Hellman (Marriottsville/Liberty), Scott Woodburn (Great Mills/Great Mills) and Matt Leddy (Great Mills/Great Mills), the Stevenson men's tennis team wrapped up conference regular season play with a 7-2 win over Wesley on Senior Day Wednesday at the Greenspring Tennis Courts.
Hellman improved his record to 3-0 at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Darren Craig while Woodburn earned his first victory of the season with a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Chris Phillips.
Meanwhile, Leddy teamed with junior Kevin Stamm (Leonardtown/Leonardtown) to earn a victory at No. 3 doubles, 8-2 over Craig and Phillips.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Ted Cooke (Snow Hill/Snow Hill) extended his winning streak to five with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Ryan Fish. It was his fourth CAC victory of the season. He also partnered with junior Ben Petasky (Baltimore/Pikesville) to earn their team-leading fourth victory at No. 1 doubles.
The Mustangs finish the regular season in a three-way tie for fourth place in the CAC with St. Mary's (Md.) and Hood and will await the results of a tiebreaker to see who and where they will be playing in the CAC Men's Tennis Championship on Sunday.
