Men's Soccer Duo Named NSCAA Scholar All-East Region

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer senior Vinny Caltabiano (Lothian/Mount Saint Joseph) and junior Sean Scarselletta (Severna Park/Severna Park) were honored for their accomplishments off the field on Friday as both were named to the 2009 NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Team.

Caltabiano and Scarselletta, the first honorees in the school's 16-year history, were honorable mention selections and two of three from the CAC, joining Salisbury senior Justin McGrath who was named to the third team.

A business administration major, Caltabiano owns a 3.37 cumulative grade point average. During his four-year career, he appeared in 77 of the team's 78 games with 69 starts, finishing his career having played in 63 consecutive games. He totaled 11 points with one goal and nine assists.

Scarselletta is also a business administration major who boasts a 3.40 grade point average. In three seasons, he has played in all of the team's 60 games with 59 starts, totaling 12 points on six goals.

To be nominated for scholar all-america honors, student-athletes must be a junior or senior, have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team.

Stevenson advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Division III South Championship, finishing the season with a 12-10-1 record. It's 12 wins were one shy of the school record set in 2005 and it was the team's first 10-win season since 2006.
