Mustangs Win Seventh Straight on Senior Night

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University men's lacrosse team ran its win streak to seven games with an 11-5 win over Lebanon Valley College in a MAC Commonwealth contest Tuesday night at Mustang Stadium on Senior Night.

  • Jacob Tatum got Stevenson (8-6, 6-0 MAC Commonwealth) on the board 2:31 into the contest.
  • Back-to-back goals by Ethan Christensen 54 seconds apart made it a 3-0 game at the 7:03 mark.
  • Shane Ford's ninth goal of the season gave the home team a 4-0 lead with 5:52 on the clock.
  • Lebanon Valley (6-9, 2-4 MAC Commonwealth) scored with 18 seconds left, and the score was 4-1 after one quarter.

  • Neither team scored in the second quarter until JT Thelen scored two goals at 2:44 and 1:14 of the period.
  • Thelen's first goal came on a feed from Christensen.
  • The second goal was in transition after Will Smith came up with an interception at midfield.  Smith got it to Tatum who found Thelen for the goal.
  • Stevenson led 6-1 at intermission.

  • Christensen recorded his third goal of the game at the 11:08 mark to make it 7-1.
  • Matt Torrence ended a 22-minute scoring drought for the Dutchmen with a goal with 7:18 remaining in the quarter.
  • Gray McKee registered a goal with 4:50 on the clock, with Tatum picking up his fourth assist of the night.
  • Thelen scored off a feed from Christensen with 51 ticks on the clock.
  • Torrence struck again with 18 seconds to play in the frame to make it 9-3 heading to the fourth.

  • Smith entered the scoring column with his goal 41 seconds into the final quarter.
  • LVC scored twice in an 80-second span to cut the Mustang lead to 10-5 with 7:13 on the clock.
  • Cam Leydig closed out the scoring as he put home a feed from Josh Brannan with 4:12 left.

  • Christensen and Thelen each had three goals, with Christensen notching two assists and Thelen one.
  • Thelen moved into a tie for ninth place on Stevenson's career assist list with 68.
  • Tatum posted a goal and four assists.
  • Dylan Harris registered four caused turnovers and four ground balls, while Tyler Sullivan had three caused turnovers and Dominic DeFazio two.
  • Joe Candon picked up six ground balls.
  • Senior Chris Varnado finished 10-14 on faceoffs and had four ground balls.
  • Senior Tyler Steinberg played the first half in goal in his first career start and made three saves, while classmate Shane Silk played the final 30 minutes and registered five stops.
  • Stevenson outshot the Dutchmen 47-27 and had 43 ground balls to LVC's 27.
  • The hosts won 13 of the game's 20 faceoffs.
  • A total of three penalties for 2:30 were called.  Lebanon Valley was 0-2 in man-up situations, while Stevenson did not have a man-up opportunity on the evening.
  • Stevenson improved to 8-0 all-time against Lebanon Valley.
  • The men's lacrosse program honored 14 seniors prior to Tuesday night's game.

  • Stevenson is on the road for its final three games of the regular season, starting with a 7 pm non-conference contest this Friday at No. 7 Cabrini.
