OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University men's lacrosse team (13-5) will open its ninth straight NCAA Championship appearance at home on Wednesday night, entertaining Nazareth College (11-8) in a second round game at Mustang Stadium in a 7:00 contest.
Stevenson qualified for its ninth straight NCAA appearance by virtue of its 12-6 win over Albright College in the MAC Commonwealth championship game Saturday night to earn the conference's automatic berth. The Mustangs are one of just seven teams who have appeared in every NCAA field since 2009.
Nazareth captured the Empire 8 championship on Saturday with an 11-10 overtime win over Stevens in Hoboken, New Jersey. The Golden Flyers will be making their 22nd overall NCAA appearance and first since 2015. Nazareth posted back-to-back overtime wins over nationally-ranked Ithaca and Stevens on the road to earn the Empire 8 crown.
Stevenson has faced Nazareth twice, winning both meetings. The Mustangs took a 17-11 win in the 2013 season opener at Mustang Stadium and defeated the Golden Flyers 8-6 in the 2014 Mustang Classic. Nazareth has played in each of the first four Mustang Classics, including this season, when it dropped games to York (Pa.) and Denison.
The winner of Wednesday's game will face the winner of a second round game between either RIT (16-2) and the winner of first round game between John Carroll (12-4) and Albion (15-3). That game would be played Saturday, May 13 at a site to be determined.
