Lacrosse Home Openers to be Played at Unitas Stadium

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Due the massive amounts of snow that remain on the Bermuda grass game field at Stevenson's Caves Athletics Complex, the home openers for the men's and women's lacrosse scheduled for this Saturday, February 27 have been moved to Towson University's Unitas Stadium.

The women's game versus Ursinus will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men's game against Kean at 7:00 p.m.

As a result of the change in venue, there will be free admission for Saturday's games, but there will not be any concessions. However, live stats and video of both games will still be available at gomustangsports.com by clicking here.

Although the game field was covered with tarps and despite the hard work of Assistant Director of Facilities and Field Technician Tom Russ, the back-to-back blizzards that hit the Mid-Atlantic Region two weeks ago have left large amounts of snow that still covers the team bench areas and most of the spectator areas.

In addition, there is a Winter Storm Watch in effect for the Owings Mills area for Wednesday and Thursday for another winter storm that is forecasted to dump five or more inches of snow over the next two days.

The 11,000-plus seat Johnny Unitas Stadium boasts a FieldTurf surface and ranks as the third-largest facility of its kind in the Metropolitan Baltimore Area behind M&T Bank Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards. It is named after legendary NFL Baltimore Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas.

In addition to being the home of the Towson football, men and women’s Lacrosse and women’s track and field teams, the stadium has also hosted games in the NCAA Division I lacrosse championships, having served as the host of the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championships since 2008.
