OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Lingering effects from last week's back-to-back blizzards that hit the Mid-Atlantic region have forced the Stevenson men's lacrosse season opener at Widener to be moved to Sunday, February 21 at 3:00 p.m. The game has also changed venues from Widener's Quick Stadium to nearby Olson Field at Eastern University.
Directions to Eastern are available here, with the exception of the following change. All parking will be done in the McInnis lot which is accessed via the main entrance to campus off Eagle Road.
For those who can't make it to the game, live stats can be accessed here.
The Mustangs, who were ranked at No. 2 in the USILA Division III Preseason Poll earlier this week, won the first-ever meeting between the two schools last year, 7-6 at Stevenson's Caves Athletics Complex.
Senior Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) scored three goals, including the game-winner with 3:21 remaining in the third quarter as the Mustangs held on for a 7-6 victory in the season-opener for both teams.
Junior Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson) and current assistant coach Brett Yoder each scored twice while senior Geoff Hebert (Lutherville/Dulaney) had 10 saves.
Stevenson is also looking to improve its record to 6-0 in season openers under head coach Paul Cantabene compared to 5-4 in the nine years prior to his arrival in 2005.
Widener finished 10-9 last season and 7-3 in the MAC, advancing to the team's fifth-straight conference championship. It was also The Pride's eighth consecutive 10-win season. Senior Nick Politarhos was named as a Preseason Honorable Mention All-America by Inside Lacrosse for the second-straight year.
Justin Upp totaled two goals and one assist in last year's meeting while junior Andrew Janusz and sophomore John Casey each had one goal and one assist. Junior Kevin Carney made nine saves.
