Wilson Scores Twice in Mustangs 5-1 Victory at Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Highlighted by two goals by sophomore Houston Wilson and a career-high 23 saves by junior Dustyn Moyer, the Stevenson men's ice hockey team posted a, 5-1, United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest versus Chatham Monday afternoon at Frozen Pond Arena.

  • The Cougars (4-11-2, 2-7-1 UCHC) took two of the first three shots before the visitors dominating offensive play, taking the next 11 during the first 10 minutes of action.
  • At the 12:37 mark, the Mustangs (7-10-0, 4-7-0 UCHC) earned the first power play of the contest and needed just 1:13 to find the back of the net as Wilson netted his second goal of the season on an assist from junior Dominic Brenza.
  • Just 25 seconds later, Stevenson went back on the power play and scored with 30 seconds remaining as junior Austin Swingle gave the visitors a 2-0 lead on an assist from freshman Ryan Patrick.
  • The Mustangs kept the offensive pressure and added a third goal just 1:31 later as Wilson added his second point of the night with a goal on assists from juniors Justin Stelzer and Mark Bowen.
  • With seven seconds remaining in the period, Stevenson went on its third power play of the afternoon that carried over into the second.
  • The visitors outshot Chatham, 20-5, in the first 20 minutes.

  • The Mustangs recorded two shots on net during the power play to start the period, but both were knocked aside by Matt Calas.
  • Chatham got on the board at the 11:33 mark of the middle frame as Dan Bellafiore beat Moyer to get the hosts within, 3-1.
  • With 1:42 remaining, Stevenson was whistled for its first penalty of the game, a bench minor for too many players on the ice but the Cougars did not record a single shot despite winning two of three face-offs.

  • Stevenson extended its lead back to three goals as sophomore Aaron Murray netted his fourth goal of the season on assists from Patrick and junior Christian Ripley.
  • The Cougars started the period, recording the first five shots before the visitors responded with eight of the next nine, including the goal by Bowen
  • Chatham went on the power play for just the second time, midway through the period, with Moyer recording a save on the lone shot of the player advantage.
  • The Mustangs went back to the power play with 4:49 remaining in regulation with the lone shot by Stelzer saved by Calas.
  • With 1:50, the Cougars pulled Calas for an extra skater, but junior Nick Gray scored an empty net goal with 32 seconds remaining.

  • Stevenson outshot Chatham, 44-24, while winning 43 of the 73 face-offs.
  • The Mustangs finished 2-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. It is the fourth time Stevenson has been whistled for two or fewer penalties.
  • The Mustangs improve to 4-0-0 in the series and have posted at least five goals in three of those matches, including in the last two.
  • With the assist, Brenza moves into third place all-time with his 20th career assist.
  • Houston recorded his first career multi-goal game while Ripley finished with two assists for the second time this season.
  • Patrick recorded his second multi-assist game of the season and is now tied for the team lead with Brenza.
  • Wilson won 10 of his 12 face-offs while Patrick won a game-high 14.
