ROCHESTER, N.Y. - After guiding the Stevenson men's ice hockey team to a pair of conference victories, senior Jacob Caffrey was named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Goaltender of the Week announced by the league on Tuesday. Caffrey was also named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
It is the first goaltender of the week award for the Mustangs in the UCHC after senior Jordan Watt and freshman Houston Wilson were named the co-player and rookie of the week on November 7. It is the second goaltender of the week award for Caffrey after he earned ECAC West Goaltender of the Week a season ago.
Caffrey stopped 56 of 57 shots on net in the team's UCHC and MAC wins over King's and Manhattanville. In the opener, the senior stopped 22 of 23 shots, including 11 in the middle frame. Caffrey recorded his second career shutout and the third in program history with 34 saves in the win over Manhattanville. He stopped 14 in the third period.
This season, Caffrey has stopped 124 of the 129 shots he has faced for a .961 save percentage and a 1.02 goals against average, which rank second and fourth in Division III.
Stevenson returns to action on Friday, November 17 when the Mustangs host a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest versus Elmira beginning at 7:00 p.m.
