Mustangs Erase Two-Goal Deficit, Down Morrisville State, 5-2

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Highlighted by a hat trick by freshman Nick Bohatiuk and three points by junior Mike Davis, the Stevenson men's ice hockey team erased a two-goal deficit to sweep Morrisville State with a 5-2 victory Saturday night at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

The Mustangs (2-0) have scored 12 goals in their opening two games with seven of the those coming on the power play. The team has also scored a shorthanded goal as well as an empty net to begin the season.

Morrisville got on the board early as Joseph Santino scored 3:37 into the contest on assists by Jordan Carvalho and Dane Moore. With just 37 seconds left in the opening period, the visiting Mustangs made it 2-0 after one after Ian Wood scored an unassisted tally.

Stevenson needed just a 2:02 span midway through the second period to knot the game at 2-2. Davis scored a power play goal on an assist from junior Doug Rose before Bohatiuk scored an even-strength tally on an assist from freshman Christian Ripley.

Bohatiuk scored the eventual game-winner 8:04 into the third period as he connected with Ripley and Davis on the score. Ripley scored his first career goal with an unassisted power play goal at the 15:08 mark to give the hosts a two-goal lead.

Morrisville pulled the goalie in favor for an extra skater after calling a timeout with 2:02 remaining but the hosts took advantage as Bohatiuk found the back of the net with 45 seconds remaining for the program's first-ever hat trick.

Junior Jacob Caffrey picked up the win after taking over for Dustyn Moyer in the second period. Caffrey finished with seven saves over the final two periods after Moyer tallied seven in the first period.

The Mustangs outshot Morrisville 36-16, including 26-7 over the final two periods.

Stevenson returns to action on Friday, November 4 when the Mustangs host Elmira in an ECAC West contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
