Men's Golf Begins Play at NCAA Championships

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - The Stevenson men's golf team kicked off play at the NCAA Division III Championships, held at the Keene Trace Golf Club. This is the Mustangs' fifth overall appearance at the tournament and fourth straight. 

Junior Matthew Shur and Josh Maisel both carded eight-over par 80's to open the tournament, placing them into a tie for 121st. 

Junior Tyler Slusarczyk, who finished second at the MAC Commonwealth Championships, shot an 85 in the first round. 

Freshman Shane Angle notched an 86, while senior Wynn Geis opened up play with a 90.

After one round of play, Illinois Wesleyan leads the team standings with a score of 287. Sam Goldenring of Williams College leads the field by a stroke after carding a three-under par 69.

The Mustangs are currently tied for 39th with a team score of 331.

The second of four rounds takes place on Wednesday, May 15.
