Shur Picks Up First Career Victory, Mustangs Win Stevenson Spring Invitational

UPPERCO, Md. - Sophomore Matthew Shur fired a one-over par 72 to win his first individual title, while the Mustangs shot a combined 306 to win the Stevenson Spring Invitational, held at the Piney Branch Golf Club. Shur, who has a shooting average of 77.92 this season, has shot under 80 in three consecutive rounds. Stevenson now has two team titles on the season.

The Mustangs, who won the tournament by 10 strokes over second-place Lebanon Valley, have won this tournament two years in a row.

Junior Josh Maisel finished three strokes back of Shur and in second place with a 75. Maisel now has eight rounds under 80 this season. 

Sophomore Matthew Maione carded 78 to finish tied for seventh, while sophomore Tyler Slusarczyk shot an 81 to round out the team score for the Stevenson "A" team. 

The Stevenson "B" team was led by junior Chris Miller who shot a 79. Miller, who finished tied for 10th overall, has three top-15 finishes on the year.

Graduate student Matt Rentz and senior Troy Wood both shot an 82 to finish tied for 18th. 

Sophomore Evan Welsh and senior Austin Fuglestad carded rounds of 84 and 85. 

The Mustangs compete next at the two-day MAC Championship, held at the Hershey Country Club starting on Saturday, April 28.
