UPPERCO, Md. - Stevenson men's golf freshman Matthew Shur and Andrew Wally each shot a 76 to finish tied for third overall in leading the host Mustangs to first place at the Stevenson Invitational, held at the Piney Branch Golf Club. Stevenson has taken first place overall in two-straight tournaments.
The Mustangs finished with a combined score of 311, which was four strokes better than second-place Concordia.
Shur, who has shot under 80 in five of his last six rounds, has finished in the top-five in each of his last three tournaments. Wally now has three top-five finishes on the year.
Junior Austin Fuglestad carded a 78 to finish eighth overall, while Johnny Messina completed the team score for the Mustangs with an 81. Fuglestad has shot under 80 in four of his last six rounds.
Freshman Matthew Maione, who competed for the Stevenson "B" team, shot his lowest round of the spring with a 77. Maione finished tied for sixth overall.
The Mustang "B" team finished fifth out of 10 schools with a score of 334.
Nate Haney of Messiah shot a three-over par 73 to take the individual title, which was one stroke better than Andy Baker of Hood.
Stevenson competes next in the two-day Messiah Spring Classic, held at the Blue Ridge Country Club starting on Sunday, April 23 through Monday, April 24. Tee time on Sunday is set for 12:30 pm. This tournament will be the Mustangs' final tune-up before the MAC Commonwealth Championships.
