Knights Outlast Mustangs 63-58

GLENSIDE, Pa. - In a battle of the two remaining unbeaten teams in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball play, Arcadia outlasted Stevenson for a 63-58 win at Alumni Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

  • Arcadia (8-2, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) jumped out to a 13-3 lead just under six minutes into the game.
  • Stevenson (7-2, 3-1 MAC Commonwealth) rattled off 13 straight points and took a 16-13 lead at the 10:29 mark on a three by Montaque Wright.
  • The Knights countered with nine straight points and went up 22-16 on two Josh Scott free throws with 7:52 left before halftime.
  • Stevenson stayed within striking distance and pulled within two, 30-28, with 3:19 on the clock on a layup by Bo Wesley.
  • The Mustangs pulled within one, 31-30, on two Walt English free throws with 1:01 to go and trailed 33-30 at intermission.

  • Stevenson took its first lead since the first half with 14:23 remaining when a three by Marcus Dentley gave the Mustangs a 40-38 lead.
  • After four ties, Arcadia used a 6-0 run to take a 52-46 lead with 6:21 to go on a layup by Da'Kquan Davis.
  • A three by English with 5:20 to go halted the run and halved the lead to 52-49.
  • The Knights used a 5-0 spurt to go up eight, 57-49, with 3:57 on the clock.
  • A layup by Marlon White, Jr. and a pair of free throws by Wright pulled the Mustangs within four with 1:56 left.
  • After a Knight free throw made it 58-53, Wright made it a one-possession game with a long three with 57 seconds to go.
  • Arcadia made two free throws to push the lead to four with 34 seconds left, but a Wright basket made it 60-58 with 25 seconds to go.
  • Davis sank two free throws with 13 seconds left, and Stevenson misfired on a three on its next possession.

  • Stevenson saw a seven-game win streak snap.  The win streak was tied for the second-longest in program history.
  • Arcadia extended its win streak to five games.
  • The Knights took 18 more trips to the free throw line, going 26-26, while Stevenson was 13-18 at the stripe.
  • The Mustangs held Arcadia to 37.5% shooting, including a 1-14 effort behind the arc, while the guests were 7-20 from long range but just 33.3% overall.
  • Arcadia held a 50-26 rebounding advantage.
  • Wright led Stevenson with 21 points, going 7-16 from the floor and 4-7 behind the arc.
  • Dentley had 12 points in his season debut.
  • Johnny Rhodes finished with seven points, four assists and a pair of steals.

  • Stevenson is back in action Tuesday night when it travels to Goucher for a 5:30 contest.
  • The next Mustang home game is Saturday, January 5, when Stevenson hosts John Jay in a 2 pm non-conference contest.
