Wooldridge Matches Career High in Men's Basketball Setback to Hood

OWINGS MILLS, Md.– Visiting Hood College drained 11 of its 22 three-point attempts and shot 48.5% overall as the Blazers downed Stevenson University 95-68 in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball Wednesday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium.  The win was the third straight for the Blazers, while it snapped a modest two-game win streak for the Mustangs.

Hood (13-4, 5-3 MAC Commonwealth) was led by 17 points by Scott Bolen, as Bolen finished 6-8 from the floor and made all three of his three-point attempts.  Michael Riley totaled 14 points, while Jared Ruiz and Luke Casey added 10 and nine, respectively.  Casey narrowly missed a double-double as he grabbed 10 rebounds.

For Stevenson (3-14, 1-7 MAC Commonwealth), freshman Kyle Wooldridge matched his career high, knocking down three three-pointers and finishing with 13 points.  Junior Tim McNeal notched nine points and five rebounds, while freshman Cameron Hayes also added nine points.

Stevenson led 6-3 five minutes into the game, but Hood took control with a 14-3 run capped by a layup by Trevor Magnuski to build a 17-9 lead 10:46 before halftime.  Leading 28-17, a 14-4 Blazer run gave the guests a 42-21 lead with 3:13 left in the frame, before the Mustangs outscored Hood 8-2 the rest of the way, and a basket by Hayes as time expired in the first half made it 44-29 at the break.

Hood outscored the Mustangs 14-3 over the first five-plus minutes of the second half to open up a 58-32 lead.  Stevenson answered with a 7-0 run, and an up-and-under by junior Cliff Cornish with 12:38 to go cut the advantage to 19,58-39.  The Blazers countered with an 8-2 spurt to go up 66-41 just past the midway point of the second half, and maintained at least a 22-point cushion the rest of the way.

The Blazers outrebounded Stevenson 46-33, including 17-11 on the offensive glass.  Hood took eight more free throws and went 18-32 from the line, while the Mustangs went 14-24 from the charity stripe.  Stevenson was limited to 41.4% shooting overall, including 6-21 from behind the arc.  Hood also finished with a 15-0 lead in fast break points on the night.

Stevenson returns to action Saturday when it travels to Arcadia University for a 3:00 MAC Commonwealth contest.
