OWINGS MILLS, Md. - For the seventh-straight season, the Stevenson field hockey team received the NFHCA National Academic Team Award for having a team grade point average above a 3.0. The Mustangs were one of 13 teams from the 16-team Middle Atlantic Conferences to be honored.
The Mustangs were one of 119 teams to be chosen as a 2014 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Team. Seven of the eight teams in the Commonwealth Conference were selected, including Albright, Alvernia, Arcadia, Lebanon Valley, Messiah, Stevenson and Widener.
Widener was tied with two other schools for the third-highest GPA in Division III at 3.57.
Seven of the eight teams from the Freedom Conference were honored, including Eastern who had the second-highest GPA in Division III at 3.60. DeSales, FDU-Florham, King's, Manhattanville, Misericordia and Wilkes were also selected.
Sotckton boasted the top team GPA in Division III at 3.76 followed by Eastern (3.60). Springfield, Wesleyan and Widener were all tied for third with a 3.57 GPA.
Stevenson set the school record for wins in a season with 15 in 2014 en route to the 2014 ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey Championship. The Mustangs placed a program-high five players on the all-conference team, including senior Caitlin Dempsey who was named player of the year.
