INDIANAPOLIS – The Stevenson University football team will open its first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Football Championship this Saturday, November 19, when it travels to Dover, Delaware to face Wesley College. Kickoff at Scott D. Miller Stadium will be noon.
Stevenson, in just its sixth season as a varsity program, earned the Middle Atlantic Conference's automatic berth after it clinched its first-ever MAC title with a 28-10 win at Lycoming College on Saturday. The Mustangs have been on a steady ascension since the program took the field in 2011, as it is making its third straight postseason appearance, having won bowl games in each of the past two seasons.
Wesley is perennially one of the top programs in Division III. The Wolverines are making their 12th straight and 13th overall NCAA appearance after winning the New Jersey Athletic Conference's automatic berth. Wesley got off to a slow start, beginning the season 1-2, but have since reeled off seven straight victories to end the regular season 8-2. The Wolverines have made six trips to the national semifinals, the most recent coming in 2014.
Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the two programs. The two teams did have one common opponent this season in Delaware Valley. Wesley fell to the Aggies 21-14 to open the season, while Stevenson blanked DelVal 19-0 on Homecoming on October 22.
