INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA released its initial Division III football regional rankings Wednesday afternoon, and Stevenson University is ranked No. 2 in the East Region. The Mustangs have been nationally ranked all season and check in at No. 12 in the AFCA Division III poll and No. 14 in the D3football.com Top 25 this week for the second straight week.
Stevenson, which is enjoying its best season in the six-year history of the program trails only Alfred University in the East Region. Both the Mustangs and Saxons out of the Empire 8 sport 8-0 records. St. John Fisher (7-1), Salisbury (7-1) and St. Lawrence (8-0) round out the top five, with spots 6-10 going to Hobart (7-1), Albright (6-2), Wesley (6-2), Western New England (8-0) and Frostburg State (7-1).
In the other three regions, the North is led by defending national champion Mount Union (8-0), the South is led by Mary Hardin-Baylor (8-0), while the West is led by Wisconsin-Whitewater (8-0).
Stevenson returns home Saturday when it hosts Wilkes University in a 1:00 contest at Mustang Stadium. The Mustangs can wrap up the Middle Atlantic Conference championship and NCAA automatic berth with a win over the Colonels.
