Mustangs Fall in Non-Conference Action to No. 21 Shenandoah, 14-5
WINCHESTER, Va. - Stevenson struck early on an RBI single by senior Justin Anderson (Shrewsbury, Pa./Calvert Hall) in the first plating junior Josh Morris (Gambrills, Md./Arundel), however, No. 21 Shenandoah responded with four runs each in the first and second en route to a 14-5 victory, Wednesday evening at Bridgeforth Field.
The Mustangs (20-20-2) grounded into a double play three times and stranded nine runners left on base.
Anderson joined freshman Bret Schilling (Catonsville, Md./Mt. St. Joseph), junior Matt Bratter (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) and junior Chris DeFeo (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) with two hits, combining for 8-of-17 with three RBIs.
The Hornets (29-10) scored in every inning but the third and fourth and belted out two homers by Jake Pendergraft in the second and Cory Nelson in the fifth.
Sophomore Drew Hutton (White Hall, Md./John Carroll) was tagged for the loss, surrendering eight earned runs, seven hits and one walk over 2.0 innings, striking out two.
Vince Claudio tied teammate Nicholas McMahon for his sixth win of the season, while Matt Riegler picked up his team-leading sixth save with 3.0 shutout innings of work.
Stevenson travels to Salisbury, Md. to face Wesley in an elimination game of the CAC Baseball Championship at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. The winner will advance to the title game to face host and sixth-ranked Salisbury at 2:00 p.m.
