TAVERAS, Fla. - The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team advanced to the Silver bracket in Sunday's final round of the AVCA Small College National Championship in Saturday's action. The Mustangs wrapped up pool play with a 3-2 setback to Eckerd, then went 1-1 in the challenge round, sweeping Principia 5-0 before falling to Division II Spring Hill 4-1.
Against Principia, all five wins came in two sets. Katie Leftridge and Trang Christensen won 21-11, 21-15, with Darian Hileman and Piper Connors pulling out a 23-21, 21-19 triumph. Emily Castro and Caroline Dangel posted a 21-13, 21-12 win at No. 3.
Against Spring Hill, Hileman and Connors picked up Stevenson's lone point, winning 21-15, 21-17.
In the first match of the day against Eckerd, the Tritons swept the top three flights, with Stevenson picking up points at No. 4 and 5 due to forfeit as Eckerd did not have enough players.
Stevenson takes on Saint Leo to open the Silver bracket as the No. 2 seed on Sunday at 9 am. The winner of that match will face the winner of Florida Southern and Lincoln Memorial at noon.
