Note:  All physical education classes will meet at the Owings Mills campus in the Owings Mills Gymnasium except for Yoga PE 111-01 and Tennis PE 114-01. Yoga will meet in the Exchange on the Greenspring campus while tennis will meet on the tennis courts.

This course is designed to introduce students to the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Students will learn basic anatomy and exercise physiology through the use of cardiovascular exercise, resistance training, and lecture. The students will be encouraged to utilize this knowledge to implement a fitness plan to achieve their personal goals.

This course will introduce the fundamentals of golf, the mechanics of the golf swing, the rules, etiquette and history of the sport. The objective of this course is for the students to learn the basic strokes used in the game of golf from the tee box to the fairway and putting green.

This course will teach the fundamentals for lifting and working out in order to promote and improve fitness of the entire body, with special emphasis on the muscular and respiratory system. Furthermore, this class will incorporate both aerobic and anaerobic activities.

Presents the skills, strategies and rules of racquetball in order to develop competencies in a lifetime sport: basic background in racquetball, including the rules, safety and skills necessary for playing.

This course will introduce the student to the general knowledge, rules, courtesies and proper mechanics of the fundamentals to bowl. An extra fee will be assessed for use of the off campus facility. The first day of classes will meet in the Owings Mills Gymnasium for orientation. There will be 10 dates for bowling and six for lectures.

PE-111 Yoga

Introduction to new and continuing students. Students will learn the fundamental principals of Yoga. Alignment, breath and standing postures. Emphasis will be on creating strength, flexibility and stamina. Also included will be some meditation and relaxation.

This course will introduce the fundamentals of volleyball and the mechanics of passing, setting, hitting, blocking and serving the volleyball, as well as the rules, etiquette and history of the sport.

This course will introduce the fundamentals of tennis and the mechanics of hitting a tennis ball, the rules, etiquette and history of the sport.

To introduce students to the rules and general play of badminton. To teach the student how to serve, volley and interact with a partner. To give the student the opportunity to participate in physical activity and to evaluate the value of physical activity and its influence to physical fitness.

PE-119 Walking for Fitness

The course introduces the activity or walking as a lifetime activity.  Fitness walking requires the students to "walk briskly" to enhance their aerobic fitness.  Students access their current fitness level, and set personal fitness goals for themselves.  Stretching exercises and health and fitness components are incorporated into the course to compliment the walking.

PE-132 Self Defense

The objective of this course is for students to be aware of their surroundings and situations in which self defense techniques may be needed and how these situations may be avoided.  Basic techniques of self defense will be taught.
