Women's Soccer Earns a Draw to St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Stevenson women's soccer battled St. Mary's (Md.) to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium. The Mustangs move to 0-2-1 on the season, while the Seahawks move to 1-1-2.

St. Mary's struck early, as they found the back of the net in the third minute to give the Seahawks a 1-0 advantage. Stevenson looked to answer shortly after with Marissa Struhar recording an attempt in the seventh minute before Karly Sheahan added another in the 11th.

The Mustangs found the equalizer in the 32nd minute, as a Stevenson team goal evened the contest at 1-1. Ashley Bowman added another opportunity late in the opening half, but the two sides entered the break knotted at one.

Bowman helped generate Stevenson's attack in the second half, recording a pair of shots, including an attempt on goal in the 67th minute that was turned away by St. Mary's goalkeeper. Colleen Fanning nearly put the Mustangs ahead in the 74th minute, but her attempt struck the crossbar to keep the match level.

Isabella Serano held strong in goal for Stevenson throughout the second half, making four saves over the final 45 minutes to preserve the draw. Serano finished the contest with eight saves while allowing just the one early goal.

Bowman led the Mustangs with three shots, including one on goal.

The Mustangs return to action Saturday when they travel to Elizabethtown to take on the Blue Jays at 4 p.m.
